Our Story

Whenever someone asks us how we met, we often sum it up as “through a friend.”

This is the story of how we got here.

The one with the house party

It was at a house party of said friend and we met in passing, but Bethany says she noticed me.

This began the slow journey of me and Beth finding our way to each other.

Fast forward 1 year

In 2011 there was a concert called the Brady block party right next to the Old lady on Brady. Right before The Flaming lips were set to perform a freak storm blew through. I huddled under a tent with Beth and lots of other people, everyone holding on tight so it wouldn’t blow away.

The Flaming Lips concert was cancelled and rescheduled for some time later at the Brady Theater.

That concert was the first time I really got to talk to Bethany and find out a little bit about who she really was.

The one with the records

One of the records that started it all.

One of the records that started it all.

When I moved out on my own I found a few records I bought from Goodwill because I thought they were cool and maybe someday I would  buy a record player.

As it turns out I never bought a record player.

I thought about just holding onto them, but then I remembered that Beth was the only person I knew who had a player and truly I just wanted to see her. It had been months since we talked.

I texted her and we set up a time to meet at the Starbucks down the street from my work. I remember being so nervous.

I was so nervous in fact that I got out of my car, met her at her truck, rambled like an idiot, handed her the records and left!

Needless to say, I felt like I had missed out and as it turns out, so did Bethany.

She texted me about an hour later. She and a “friend” had tickets to see Dark Shadows, but her friend couldn’t make it. I accepted the invitation with relief.

Maybe there really was something there?

After the very platonic movie date, we found out both of us were planning to go to the Saint Vincent concert on May 15th (well I planned to after I found out Beth was going). The idea was to meet up with Beth and her room mate.

Concert Tickets

We love our concerts!

It so happened that Jill couldn’t make it that night and and it ended up being our first date.

We met at Jo Momma’s for dinner and talked about where we worked and what we wanted to do with our lives. I again was very nervous and accidentally made her pay for the Momma’s Bread.

Then we went to our first concert together and I remember pretty much everything about it.

St. Vincent – 5/15/2012

I walked Beth to her car at the end of the night and I said we should meet up for Mayfest the next week. She said she might. Of course later she said she was going.

I remember that night like it was yesterday.

Beth came in a very pretty dress and we sat on the grass and talked and enjoyed each other’s company.

The Thunder was on so we walked down and met up with some of her friends, I refer to them as “the girls.” When the game was over I walked her back to her car several blocks away. We walked and talked about Heartless Bastards. She was the one who introduced me to the band.

When we got to her car she offered to  drive me back to mine. Again, the nerves kicked in, but I asked her if she would like to go out on a real date. You know, one we actually call a date.

She said yes!

The One with the date night

From my perspective our first date was a disaster and it was all my fault.

I picked her up and we went and ate at Olivetto for dinner, I remember what both of us had to eat.

Then we went ice skating. Pretty romantic right?

Well as it turns out I’m pretty terrible at ice skating nor do I remember being in more pain in my entire life. My feet hurt so bad and I remember feeling clumsy.

After that we went to Nordaggio’s to get coffee and the ride to take her home to BA was probably our favorite part of the date. That night I found out who Bethany really was and what she cared about and I liked what I saw.
